Computer and Information Science

The SUNY Polytechnic Institute Computer and Information Sciences Department offers programs that produce trained scientists and professionals in the computing and information fields. Our graduate and undergraduate programs provide the flexibility which allows students to position themselves in the field according to their own strengths and interests.

The field of computing enables much of the on-going revolution in information technology and communications. Its techniques, tools and problem-solving approaches have proven both effective and powerful. Computing professionals define and provide the new information infrastructure thereby changing society and culture by extending and enhancing everyone’s abilities.

The Computer Science Network

The Computer Science Department operates its own network, the “DogNet”. This allows us to focus on what’s most important; maintaining high-quality and easily available services to our students. These systems have become extremely helpful to students because they were built by students.

The DogNet offers students with passion and skill the opportunity to help shape its future. Everything is built and managed by students, with employment and learning opportunities available year-round.
